IN SEARCH OF A GOOD DEATH: Palliative care, comfort and meaning at life’s end. A lifelong learning initiative from PBA FM in Adelaide South Australia.

This matter of dying is an important aspect of life that will inevitably visit each of us. However, living as we do in a western culture, many Australians have done remarkably well in denying the inevitability of our deaths.

End of life care - in residential care, in hospices and/or at home - can be a variable and changing landscape, and may pose a challenge to carers and patient’s families. So how do we get beyond a Pills and Platitudes approach, and find better ways of providing care, comfort and meaning at the end of life?

In Search of a Good Death will explore current questions and issues in the palliative care and support of those who are dying and their families, and will seek to discover the best of what can be done in response to the human experience of suffering, facing death and issues of end of life.

Produced as a lifelong learning resource utilising the medium of radio, and in conjunction with a dedicated website – www.insearchofagooddeath.com.au - the series will be of interest to a wide thinking audience through the Community Radio Network in Australia, as well as to medical/health professionals everywhere.

Produced at PBA FM in Adelaide South Australia, and with funding from the Community Broadcasting Foundation in Melbourne and the Nurselink Foundation in Adelaide, In Search of a Good Death.

LIVING OUTBACK: Issues for rural and remote communities in Australia

Rural and remote communities are at the centre of the mythology and cultural ethos of Australia. Most of us have indulged nostalgic and sentimental thoughts of the outback and life in the bush – helped along perhaps by a film we’ve seen.

But the reality of life for many people in rural and remote Australia is quite another story – and one that needs to be told.

Produced at PBA FM in Adelaide South Australia, and with funding from the Community Broadcasting Foundation. Each podcast is approximately 27 minutes.
